How it begun

Our Story

How they met
Kate and Luke met in 2011 after a mutual friend tried to set them up. Both Kate and Luke had said “no” several times before finally meeting. In the meantime, both had set up profiles on and connected via an on-line website. It was then that they both realised that they were the people that their mutual friend had tried to set up. They also realised that they had many mutual friends and had also previously crossed paths.

They finally met face to face at the Brighton Dog Park at Brighton. Kate was hanging with friends when Luke’s friend arrived and much to Kate’s embarrassment, Luke was hanging out the window of the car yelling Kate’s name. It was coincidental that “No Scrubs” by TLC was playing when they first met and it has remained Kate’s song for Luke ever since.

First date
Their first official date was at the Lakeside Motorway at the Father’s Day Australian Muscle Car Show in 2011. Luke had to catch the barge home to Moreton Island, but because he and Kate were talking so much, he missed the barge. He then asked Kate out that night. They were inseparable from then on and Luke moved in with Kate. Both Kate and Luke knew that they had met the right person for them straight away Luke was working with Sunrover Tours as a tour guide at the time and was away for many overnight tours.

After a couple of years, they ended up going their separate ways. Both Kate and Luke had relationships with others however, they both were always aware of what the other was doing through mutual friends. Kate moved down to Thornside for a few years and returned to Narangba in 2020 when Covid struck.

How they reconnected
In 2021 a letter for Luke arrived at Kate’s address. It should be noted that they both single at this time. Kate contacted Luke and they both decided that they would like to remain friends. After a month or so, both of them realised that they still had strong feelings for each other and decided start dating again. Luke told Kate that he had two boys from his previous relationship and that if they started dating again, the boys were a non-negotiable and that his boys would always take priority. Kate met the boys, fell instantly in love with both boys and was “bonus Mum” from then on.

One month after Kate and Luke reconnected, Kate made a life-changing decision and Luke supported her totally even though she was super “bit**y”. He knew that she was going through a lot of pain both physically and emotionally and his support made it all worthwhile.

Life was pretty rugged for Kate and her family in 2021 and 2022 as they lost many close family and friends. In early 2022, Luke told Kate that life was too short and that he knew that he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life. Both Kate and Luke knew that life was better together than it was apart. Luke asked Kate’s parents for their blessing to propose and after that was received, Luke set a surprise proposal into motion. He worked with his two boys to make it special so in May 2022, he and the two boys proposed to Kate at the Scarborough Boat Ramp. Kate happily accepted and now they are getting married on 28 June 2025.

When asked what made them fall in love with each other and their responses are

Kate – “I fell in love with Luke because he had a cute face and that he always knew how to cheer me up when I was at my worst. Also watching him being a great Dad to the boys made me fall more in love with him. That sealed the deal.”

Luke – “I fell in love with Kate because she had a beautiful personality that shone through. She was kind and always knew when I needed support emotionally and she always knew how to lift my mood. She also protects me from frogs ….”
